Yes, JPG is a lossy format. Use the quality slider to control the balance. Quality 90% gives near-lossless results at half the file size.
JPG doesn't support transparency. The transparent areas become a solid color (white by default). You can change this in the background color setting.
Set the quality slider to 95-100%. The file will still be smaller than PNG but visually nearly identical. For truly lossless conversion, stick with PNG.
