How to Reduce Image Size on iPhone

3 free methods. No apps to install.

iPhone photos are big. 12MP to 48MP, 5MB to 15MB each. Here are 3 ways to make them smaller.

Quickest: Method 3 — use the free tool below. Works in Safari.

Method 1: Change your camera settings

1
Open SettingsCameraFormats
2
Select "High Efficiency" (HEIF/HEIC format)

New photos will be 40-50% smaller automatically.

Note: HEIC isn't supported everywhere. Convert to JPEG when sharing with non-Apple users.

Method 2: The Mail trick

1
Select photo(s) → tap ShareMail
2
Choose "Small" or "Medium"
3
Long-press the compressed photo → Save Image
4
Close the email — don't send it

"Small" takes a 10MB photo down to about 500KB.

Method 3: Online compressor

Use a tool that runs in your browser. Your photos stay on your device.
